I had been walking through the lobby of the Equitable Building NYC – located at 120 Broadway in New York City. It was decorated for the Christmas holidays!

The Equitable Building at 120 Broadway in New York City is a landmark skyscraper. It has played a significant role in the history of the city’s architecture and commerce. The building stands at 700 feet tall. It is the tallest in the world when it was completed in 1915. It remains an iconic presence on the Lower Manhattan skyline.

Designed by the architecture firm of Hoppin & Koen, its construction was commissioned by the Equitable Life Assurance Society. The society seeked a new headquarters that would reflect its stability and prosperity. The result was a grand Beaux-Arts building that combined a sense of elegance and functionality.

The exterior of the Equitable Building NYC is adorned in white marble, with a number of decorative features like Corinthian columns and sculptural reliefs. The main entrance is a grand archway, and the building’s height is emphasized by a series of setbacks that create a sense of verticality.

Inside, it’s organized around a central atrium that rises from the ground floor to the top of the building. This atrium is surrounded by a series of floors that contain the building’s offices. The atrium is topped by a skylight allowing natural light to flood into the space. The building also features a number of amenities, including a restaurant, as well as a series of public spaces that were designed to be used for events and meetings.

When it was constructed, the building was equipped with innovative features designed to make it more efficient and convenient to use. These included a pneumatic tube system for sending documents and packages between floors. It also had an early form of air conditioning that used chilled water to cool the air.

Over the years, the Equitable Building has been home to a number of notable tenants, including law firms, financial institutions, and media companies. It has played host to many important events and meetings, including negotiations that helped to shape the modern financial system. It’s also has had its fair share of colorful history.

Despite its age, the Equitable Building remains a vital and active part of the New York City skyline. It has undergone a number of renovations and updates over the years. Its enduring sense of grandeur makes it an enduring symbol of the city’s rich architectural heritage. Today, the building is a designated New York City landmark. It continues to be a popular destination for visitors and locals alike.
